We arrived in San Antonio in the late afternoon and pulled into a "Campgrounds of America Park" which allowed us to stay for 3 nights at 1/2 price which turned out to be $18.00 per night. It was a very nice park and well maintained. Although the dog park left something to be desired......a mat of tiny little prickly burrs.....my dogs wouldn't even go in!

On Sunday we thought it would probably be too busy for the River Walk so we opted to drive out to a Flea Market. We didn't actually buy anything but we got a good workout walking around the whole thing.

Monday was our River Walk day. The weather was good, a little overcast but good so off we went. You arrive in the city which is like every other city, busy, lots of big buildings and regular city streets........then you walk down one flight of stairs and you are transported into a whole different world! There are gardens, plants, trees, pretty little ivy covered bridges, lots of unique little water features and of course the River itself. There is an area of Restaurants with tables set up at the waters edge but for the most part it is like a big park in the middle of the city. There is a hospital whose basement is on the River Walk and it has a pub in it facing out to the river.....how cool is that. There is an open air Theatre with seats up on one side of the water and the stage on the other. We took a boat tour around the whole area and were amazed to learn that the city almost covered the waterway and wanted to run it through culverts, completely hiding it. Two ladies took up the cause, helped by an Architect who drew plans for a lot of the features and the rest as they say is history.

We stopped and had lunch at one of the little cafes along the water......BBQ that was just delicious.

We also ventured over to the Alamo, where we listened to a fellow give a very interesting talk about the battle of the Alamo. He was an excellent speaker and made it all sound as though it had happened just yesterday.

All in all a pretty relaxing, enjoyable day.
