MOVING A VACUUM
Today dawned sunny and bright....and warm! I took the dogs out and walked around the park. I stopped to talk to Pam and Ted and while I was standing there the wind picked up. They are relatively new to trailering and he put his awning up but did not slant it. Well we had some rain last night and suddenly the wind caught the awning and this curtain of water came off the front. Somehow I managed to jump out of the way and only got a few splatters on me but Mexi and Splash were not so lucky.
The rest of the day I spent cleaning out closets, doing laundry, sewing and ironing. Colin decided that he was going to get motivated today and start his to do list. "He recaulked the shower surround and then got into moving the central Vac from the kitchen cupboard to under the step. A harder task then we first thought. For some reason they used 3" screws to put the top on the steps and it was really hard to get off. By dinner time he had it pretty much moved and working. A few things to finish up yet but it's mostly done.
Have to go to bed early tonight because we have to get up early tomorrow.
"TUR......DUCK.....EN.......WHAT?
Cy and Audrey received this creature as a Christmas and needed help to eat it. Another new thing for us. They take a chicken and they stuff it into a duck, then they stuff that into a turkey ....then they put cornbread stuffing into the middle. .....and then you have Turducken. They actually take all the bones out of the chicken and duck before they stuff it in, they leave the wing bones and leg bones in the turkey. After it's cooked you take the legs and wings off the turkey and slice it crosswise so you get layers of all the different meats and the stuffing. Very good. There were 12 of us and since Cy and Audrey supplied the meat we all brought the other stuff. Another excellent meal in Fulton.
OYSTERS
We woke up to a gorgeous morning, sun shine and warmth.
Around 3:00 we congregated at Ron and Pats for Oysters Suzanne and Armin supplied the Oysters and I brought the topping and some munchies. They were excellent as always and it was a great day to sit outside in the sun.
After dinner we were watching TV when I decided I wanted some ice cream which I had stored in the Club House freezer. I ran down the road but the door was already locked. No ice cream .......... ahhh but Dairy Queen was still open. Problem solved. We got there and realised we didn't have money with us, so we raided the ashtray and ended up with enough for 2 blizzards. They were very good!
PROCRASTINATION COMES TO AN END
Every year about this time I come to the conclusion that it is time to start my yearly session of accounting for our rental properties. It usually takes me a couple weeks of working up to it before I finally make a start. So today I started with the first step of compiling all the papers and sorting through receipts. It's a real pain because we store our filing box under the bed so it's not readily accessible.....and as they say "out of site, out of mind". But now that I am started, things should progress fairly quickly.
Today I also ended up with 3 sewing projects for other people, a seam split on a shirt, the seat split out of a pair of pants and a top to be shortened. The first two went fine the third was another matter. I decided to haul my serger out as the fabric on the top was a knit and would easily fray. I just could not get the darn thing threaded so after a bit of a struggle I gave up and went outside for a while. I wasn't enjoying myself because I kept thinking about the unfinished top back in the trailer. Finally I gave up again on relaxing and gave the machine one more try. It just was not working so I finally hopped into the truck and drove to Wal-Mart to pick up some seam binding and went that route instead. It actually turned out better than if I had done it the other way.
When I finished the top I told Colin I would cut his hair and that made him very happy. After that I vacuumed up the sewing mess and the hair cut mess all at once. Colin decided he was making dinner which in his books usually means we are going out. We went to Panjo's Pizza and ordered their "The Works Pizza" ......which was I think one of the better pizzas I have had in a long time. When we got home we watched a movie and then went to bed.
COOKING DINNER FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOY!
Everyone getting ready to chow down.
Happy "58th" Birthday cake.
More sunshine....... I love it! We got up this morning and went out for breakfast. Not the best breakfast I have ever had but I didn't have to make it and that made it good. On the way home we picked a few things that I needed for dinner and then headed home.
Thank goodness I started cooking right away cause I finished just barely in time. I made Coquille St. Jacques (a scallop dish) with Greek Salad, green beans with almond slivers and homemade chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. There were 9 of us in attendance at Colin's birthday dinner. There was nothing left so I think everyone enjoyed it.
When we got back to the trailer Colin got calls from Cort, Sherri-Lyn, Shelly and Luke....nice to hear from everyone on his birthday.
WOW........SUN!!!!
Isn't he a cute little guy!
We got up this morning to glorious sunshine!!!! Do I sound excited, well yes I am. It's been raining for so long I forgot what the sun looked like. You could actually walk outside with just your shirt on and not freeze.
We did some putzing around the trailer and then in the afternoon we went to the Aransas Wildlife Refuge. It was a perfect day to do some bird watching and visual animal hunting. We saw 16 Armadillos, a whole bunch of deer, ducks, a hawk and various and sundry birds. Not bad for a quick tour around.
There was left over stew that I had put on before we left that made a quick tasty dinner. A great day!
WEBBED FEET IN SOCKS
Okay, we have had soo much rain that I think I am growing skin between my toes! And I have to wear socks to keep them warm! The field behind the trailer is now quite flooded and the dogs can't run back there anymore......swim maybe. I have to leave a towel at the door to wipe the dogs feet on cause they invariably find some mud to walk through when they go out. It's suppose to change this weekend but I'm not keeping my fingers crossed.....don't want to jinx it.
Didn't really do too much of anything today as it was just a blah kind of day.
We did go out for oysters at dinner time and they were good....a little highlight to an otherwise boring day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
A MESSED UP DAY
It started off bad because I got up late....and that was because I didn't sleep well last night. The nice thing is when your retired you can sleep in if you want to cause no one expects you at work......well maybe the dogs.
So when I did get up I figured I would turn the trailer inside out and give it a good cleaning ....... not! The new amplifier came for the TV today so Colin had everything pulled apart to install it. I did manage to get the bed changed and the laundry done but not much else. In frustration I started sewing, made another pair of pants for Mexi and cut out some stuff. Of course then I had to clean up my sewing mess as well.
After dinner I took the dogs out for a walk and on my way back found our neighbor dog "Clyde" outside in front of his steps. I looked for Ron, Knocked on the door and couldn't find anyone. Then I noticed their car was gone. I have a feeling that Clyde slipped out and they didn't notice him and left him out there. Poor baby! I tried to see if the door was open and thank goodness it was, so I let him in. I hope I did the right thing......I will let you know tomorrow.
SHOPPING DAY IN CORPUS CHRISTI
When I got up this morning I felt like I had spent the night rehearsing for a part in the Exorcist. My neck was very sore and stiff so I decided to opt out of the aerobics workout this morning. Colin figured he was feeling well enough to head out for the day so after walking the dogs we headed off to Corpus for some shopping.
Our first stop was Sam's Club to buy some bulk items and we were hopping to find Scallops there for Colin's birthday dinner. They had none of the smaller Bay scallops that I usually use only great big ones and then they only had 4 bags of them. We were also looking for bulk Feta Cheese but they were completely out of that. We did however manage to spend over $10o dollars so it wasn't a wasted trip. Next stop was the Dollar Tree for a few things and then on to Joanne's Fabrics. By this time Colin was deteriorating so instead of spending about 3 hours in Joanne's like I wanted to I spent about an hour. I bought some fabric and notions that I needed for projects I have planned and then I went out and met Colin in the coffee shop.
Some of our friends had told us there was an HEB Plus (grocery store) at one end of town and we were hoping that we could find our Scallops there. It is a wonderful big store sort of like a Super Wal-Mart but I would say a little heavier on the grocery end. They had the scallops we wanted and when we told him that we wanted 5 lbs. he said we could buy a bag. The bag was 5.8 lbs. and they only charged us for 5 so that was a good deal. They also had the dog food that the dogs really like so we stocked up on that too.
When we were finished it was time for dinner so we stopped at Sirloin Stockade, it was good as always and we probably ate way too much. By this time Colin was feeling kind of crumby so I volunteered to drive home. Since we have very little freezer space we were hoping to get back in time to put the scallops in the Clubhouse freezer.....we squeaked in just in time and were able to get them in there.
We have not left the dogs by themselves much lately so they were very happy to have us home again.
BELT SANDER RACES......ONLY IN TEXAS!
SLIPPERY PUD PIE
Ya, I'd never heard of it either! Ron and Pat invited us to join them and a few others from the park for "Slippery Pud Pie" It's a mixture of beef, gravy, noodles and potatoes cooked for many hours and served piping hot with coleslaw. It was the perfect meal for today as it was very cold outside. I made a homemade apple pie to take over and it was still warm by the time we served it out, It must have been a good idea because someone else brought the same thing. After we were finished eating we sat and talked for a while and then headed back to our trailers. I was very tired as I had hardly any sleep the night before.......two huge cups of tea with dinner was a really bad idea. My eyes were permanently stuck open. finally at about 4:30 I got up did some dishes and played solitaire on the computer till about 6:00........I was not really a fully functioning person today.....and grouchy too......go figure!
HEY, WHO TURNED OFF THE HEAT!
Wow! Didn't get much above 55 F. here today. Kinda cool.
I finally got to do some more sewing today, some mending and then I started the dog coats. I made the first one and by the time I was half way through discovered that it was way too big for either of my dogs. I took it over to Suzanne's to see if it would fit Heidi, it was even too big for her. Next we decided to try it on Clyde (a Pomeranian) It was a little loose but he was snuggly in it. It was pink and blue but it looked nice on him.......he is now in touch with his feminine side.
Later in the afternoon we decided to go for a drive and check out some other RV parks. Colin got some very good bird pictures or should I say interesting, as soon as he sends them to me I will post them with this entry. We ended up at Pop's Restaurant and had dinner there. Colin had Catfish and I had a Blue Cheese Burger....both were very good.
ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL
I was very tired when I got up this morning as I didn't do much sleeping through the night. It rained heavily from about 9:00 on till about 2:30. I must have got up about 5 times then finally I fell asleep between 6:00AM and 9:00AM. I turned off the alarm at 8:30 and fell right back to sleep not even remembering that I had done it. When I finally woke up again it was 9:15 and I only had 15 minutes to dress and walk the dogs before aerobic. We were a bit late getting started but there was only 4 of us so it was okay.
When I got back I did some laundry and straightened up. We had lunch and then Colin thought he was in good enough shape to go for a walk. Since it rained last night there were lots of puddles and mud.....Mexi, being a white dog found plenty of both to march through. Needless to say by the time we got back it was also time for Dog Baths. After blow drying and brushing it was time for clean harnesses and bandannas....... thank goodness they are all clean again!
I was going to sew again today but only managed to get the cutting out part done. I am making a pink coat with blue trim for Splash and a blue coat with pink trim for Mexi.
A GOOD DAY...... WITH SPARKLES!
Colin is finally back to sort of his old self. He ate today, went out in the truck and even had some coffee. He still gets tired quickly but believe you me he is way better than he was.
I cleaned up this morning and then got out some stuff to do some sewing. Dorrace came over to get me to help her with a poncho style top she wanted to make to take on her cruise in March. She wanted to borrow my scissors and asked me to look at it before she cut it. She got kind of nervous when she started to cut it. I told her I would do it for her and she finally decided it was a good idea.
I finished it in a few hours, although it was a little tricky to sew on the beading that she had bought to go along the edge. As the fabric was black with gold glitter on it, my whole trailer is sparkley. It actually turned out quite nice. I wouldn't let her pay me so she is going to take me out for lunch.
I really love days when I get to sit and sew.......I'm counting on another one tomorrow.
TODAY?......A TOTAL WRITE OFF!
So it's Monday morning and off to aerobics class.....only 4 of us but we had a good workout none the less. From here on it went down hill! Although Colin is feeling a bit better.
When I got back to the trailer I remembered that Colin had mentioned the night before that we had to get 2 things ready to ship.....ebay sales. I had my shower and by then Colin was ready to call out an inventory of what was to go in each box. I packed up the boxes and I proceeded to tape them up. Then we seemed to come to a grinding halt. I thought we should take them out right away but then we decided to have some lunch and then we had to wait so Colin could go to the bathroom just before we left and then, and then....... We managed to get out of the trailer by about 3:30. The post office went smoothly, then to FedEx. Colin went in and came out a few minutes later saying he had to give them the recipients phone number.......back to the trailer.......and of course by this time Colin was exhausted from all the activity so I went back to the FedEx place by myself. Very Long Story Short......they wanted $86.00 to send the parcel and I said NO WAY! So I put the parcel back in the truck.
Next on the list was to return a broken container to Wal-Mart and take back a DVD player ......another long story but it had to go back. The container was okay as it was just a straight exchange. But the DVD Player, because it was purchased on Colin's American Express.... (which I didn't have with me) they could not give me a refund.......that's right......back into the truck!
I did however pick up a Pizza for dinner which was quite cheap and really good. I feel like this whole day was a total waste of time......we will try for a better day tomorrow!
RELAPSE
Sunday was not a good day for Colin, he was back on the couch with a mild fever. He's sticking mostly to fruit and light stuff.
It was a very quiet day and hopefully tomorrow will be better......I am starting to get cabin fever!!
SHARES IN THE CLOROX COMPANY
I figure that over the last week I have used enough bleach to own shares in the company. I just didn't want to catch what Colin had so everyday I have been scrubbing down every surface in the bathroom with bleach, washing the dishes with bleach, washing the sheets with bleach, and wiping all the counter tops and table surfaces with bleach. It must have worked because I still feel fine.
This morning I hopped in the truck, went to the post office, went to Walmart to see if I could find a short extension cord.......Not, and then to the car wash to clean the truck.
When I got back, Colin was upright in his chair and had his computer turned on......WOW. He still breaks out into sweats but he is much better....in fact he stayed awake all day!
I forgot to tell you, I got my new glasses yesterday that I ordered over the internet. They are great! $58.00 for bendable titanium frames, progressive bifocals, anti-scratch and anti-reflective coating and polished beveled edges. Oh and also included in that were polarized sunglass clips, a case and cleaning cloth. It's great you just go on line, fill in your prescription and pupil distance, pick your frames and other options.......and wah-lah about 10 days later you get your new glasses. If anyone is interested go to zennioptical.com I will never buy glasses from a store again. They are also guaranteed for prescription correctness. I think they give you your money back and a new pair of glasses. They also have sunglasses, or photo grey lenses and Prescription Goggles. (and no they are not paying me to advertise for them...they are just good)
SICK HUBBY .........DOCTOR
Colin's fever spiked at 103.......that's just too high so first thing this morning I made a doctors appointment at the Gulfside Medical Clinic with Dr. Bill. We couldn't get anything till 3:00 but that was okay......not like we have a rigid schedule around here, that is unless it interferes with happy hour or eating....neither of which Colin was participating in.
The doctor said he had a bug which seems to be making it's way around, Viral so no Antibiotics but he did give him a script for Diarrhea medicine. I took him home and then went back out to get the medicine, some juice and fruit.
Sorry, that is as exciting as it got today.
SICK HUBBBY ....... DAY TWO
Didn't get alot of sleeping done last night.....Colin was up about every 2 hours, had a severe case of the trots. He was freezing and I was cooking, bad combination.
I finally gave up at about 6:30 and got up. I tidied up the trailer and then waited for Colin to get up. He had his shower and put on his dressing gown and made it as far as the couch. Not at all like Colin. I had my shower, got dressed and then set Colin up with drinks, ice for his head, an orange, blanket and anything else I figured he might need while I was out. It was the monthly Ladies Lunch so I got a ride with one of the ladies here and we headed for "Off the Hook". Lunch was great. When I got back Colin was still on the couch looking miserable. He kept falling asleep so I went off to Wal-Mart to get a few things. When I came back he was still sleeping so I took the dogs out for a walk and then joined with some others in the park for happy hour.
When I got back Colin was awake so I made him some soup and a small salad.
And that my friends is the end of another exciting day in Fulton Texas.....The Little Drinking Village with a Fishing Problem.
101.4 AND CLIMBING!!
Poor sick Colin.
The day started out fairly normal, I got up and went to aerobic. When I get back, Colin is usually up and enjoying his first coffee.....not this morning! He didn't get up till 10:30. Everything seemed normal, I had my shower, did some laundry and tidied up. Colin went to get the mail and when he came back he made lunch for us both but was unable to finish cleaning up, he just was not feeling well.
By dinner time his temp was just over 100 but after dinner it got up to 101.4. I tucked him in put ice on his head and made him a drink. It takes alot to knock him down but I think he is down. He even laid on the couch today......he never does that. Lets just hope I don't get whatever it is he has.
CLEANING AND HOT TEMPS!
Splash and Mexi drying themselves after their bath.....what good dogs!
I didn't feel very ambitious today but once I got going I got alot done. I started out by taking everything out of the fridge and wiping it down. Then I decided to change the shelf arrangement and was much happier with the space. This is our second Titanium Trailer and the second one is much bigger than the first but the fridge is actually smaller. I think I should go work for companies that design these things......instead of putting in one large crisper drawer, they put in two small ones with a 3 inch space between.......how dumb is that?
Next I moved on to the cutlery and tea towel drawers......they were a mess! I dumped everything out onto the counter and washed the insides. When everything was put back it looked alot better.....and I could actually find stuff!
In the afternoon, Colin and I went for a walk along the ocean. It was fine down by the water but on the way back it got so hot I didn't think I would make it. I think it was the heat that gave me a migraine so I laid down for a while and when I got up it was much better. Colin decided to go into Port Aransas but I decided to stay home and bath the dogs. Everyday at about 4:00 we take them out in the field and give them a good run......very fun......but they get very dirty back there. The baths were definitely needed. I am working on getting both dogs to let me brush their teeth at bath time.....Splash doesn't like it but she will let me do it......Mexi on the other hand will have nothing to do with it, I can't even get the brush in her mouth. Colin suggested that I put peanut butter on the brush till she gets used to the idea, so we will try that next time. Any body who has a good idea for brushing dog teeth please let me know.
SCAVENGER HUNT
We started out with one more person at the aerobics work out which brings us to 8 in total. We will soon have to move all the tables in the hall to make room for everyone.
After aerobics and a shower, Dorrace, Audrey and I went to get our hair cut. We stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up a few things and then back to the park.
I was sitting inside when there suddenly seemed to be a lot of activity outside. Charlie, our neighbor across the road had lost his hearing aid and everyone was looking for it. He thought maybe it had fallen out while he was walking his dog. WE searched on the road, in the grass, in his car and his house but no one turned it up.
At 4:00 we joined everyone over at Pat and Ron's for oysters, some raw and some on the B-B-Que. They were delicious. I made some bruchetta to take over and it turned out really good, there was only one piece left so it must have tasted good.
When it got dark I went out with our ultra violet LED Flashlight to have another look for the hearing aid.......I walked the whole park and no luck........Poor Charlie!
QUIET SUNDAY
Today was a quiet day. Just sat around and played with my computer most of the day.
At 4:00 we joined the happy hour at Ron and Pats. At 5:00 we went over to the Club House for dinner with Suzanne and Armin, Pat and Ron, Audrey and Cy, Dorrace and Gaynor. We had a German dish know as Roladden ....rolled up thin strips of beef with union mustard and pickle inside. These are cooked in gravy and are very tasty! We had mashed potatoes, salad and red cabbage with it. As it was Pat and Gaynor's birthday this week we had cake to celebrate. After dinner we sat and talked for a while and then all headed back to our trailers. We walked the dogs and then went in for the night.
Gee.....us retired people are so boring aren't we?
A GOOD DAY IN FULTON STARTS WITH FRESH SHRIMP
Good Shrimp!
I started the day by getting the trailer cleaned up and by 11:00 Mr Dom brought in fresh shrimp. I bought 7 lbs at $5.50 a lb. He and his wife bring them fresh off the boat, weigh them and take the heads off them while you wait. I took them back to the trailer, shelled and deveined them, rinsed them and froze them in bags of 20 shrimp each. They look delicious!
Later in the afternoon I decided I would like to go out for a burger so we hopped in the truck and started to drive towards Aransas Pass. We checked out several RV Parks along the way and actually found one that we really like. Colin had a burger place in mind but when we got there it didn't look too open so we started to drive back to Fulton. By this time it was almost 5:00 so we decided to go to the Mexican restaurant, Los Camoles. Their food is excellent and we always enjoy it there.
WE got home reasonable early and took the dogs for a walk and then packed it in for the night.
A GOOD DAY
Pretty, Shiny, Clean Truck!
Although Colin was feeling worse today, I felt alot better. I was very excited this morning as I had seven people in my aerobics class....there was even one lady in her 80's trying to keep up. Got to hand it to her for trying!
Next it was time to take down all the outside Christmas decoration and store them away. By this time I was on a roll so I took the truck over to the car wash and gave it a good scrubbing. The white lettering on the new tires we had put on was still covered with that blue stuff they put on so that had to be scrubbed off. Back at the park I wiped it all down and cleaned the windows and the inside. All clean and shiny again!
Later in the afternoon we drove around to look at some different RV parks. We found a whole different area that we have not seen before.....but none of the parks were that interesting. We will probably go out tomorrow again.
When we got back to the park we found that our new Golf Clubs had arrived so we unpacked them all and checked them out. I won't know what I'm doing but I think I will look like I do, they are very impressive!
QUIET DAY
It was quite cold when I got up this morning to take the dogs out. My cold seemed worse this morning but as the day went on I started to feel a bit better. We had homemade Quiche for breakfast.....very good with ham, feta cheese and spinach.... I made two for the Christmas morning brunch and only took one so we had the other one in the freezer. I made some pea soup for lunch to use up a ham bone and it also was very good.
I made a trip to Wal-Mart in the afternoon to pick up a few things. While there I found some nice PJ's on sale for $5.00 a pair so I got 2, they are great for lounging around the trailer at night.
It was all you can eat oysters night at "Off the Hook" so we drove over and had dinner there. They were delicious as usual! It was just Colin and I as the others had plans tonight. While we were in there some guys came in with their catch and the Staff cooked it up for them.....we saw it come out of the kitchen and it looked really good! Can't get it much fresher than that.
FIRST COLD FOR 2008
I woke up this morning and decided that they were going to have to do aerobics without me. Colin and I both have colds. I got up went to the Club House to set up the DVD for the rest of the girls and left a note for them not to wait for me. I found out later they all stood around waiting cause no one saw the note till they decided to carry on with out me.
It was a pretty exciting day mostly spent on the couch. Lots of hot drinks and I think I should own shares Kimberly Clark Paper Company for the amount of tissues I have gone through in the last few days.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better
DAY ONE .......2008
Dorrace getting ready to serve up our feast.
We woke up to cool temperatures but bright sunshine. Nothing like starting off the year with the sun in the sky!
We were invited over to our friend Dorrace's for her traditional New Years Day Dinner. The meal consisted of Black Eyed Peas, Pork, cabbage and roasted potatoes. The Pork, Cabbage and peas represent Health, Wealth and Happiness......not sure if I got the order right though??? It's a simple meal but tastes really good after having all the fancy food we have around this time of year. There were 10 of us all together and Dorrace did a great job of getting everything ready.
After we were finished we took the dogs for a walk along the waterfront.....a 2 mile mile return trip to the lighthouse and back. It was a bit windy right along the water so we came back along the side streets.
The rest of the day was pretty quiet because I think we are both coming down with our first colds of the year.....How fun is that!
