As it turns out there were 3 guys on our street all turning 60 this year. All of us scheming wives got together and planned a "St. Patrick's Day Bash"......at least that is what we told the guys. There were a lot of untruths told and some strange trips out for the girls. We made it a pot luck so no one had to do a lot of prep work. All in all we had about 50 people turn out. When all the guests were there we wheeled out the table with a huge birthday cake and balloons and presented the boys with ribbons, which read, "Living Fossil" "Older than Dirt" and "Over the Hill" There were no gifts but no shortage of funny cards.
We played a game where the women had a nylon stocking with a potato in the bottom tied to their waist. They had to walk to the other side where their husbands had a bucket between their legs. That's right ......no hands and get the potato into the bucket. So very funny to watch!
Next we played bean bag baseball.......a game I think was invented for geriatrics so they could tell their friend they played baseball. You have two teams facing each other in chairs with a big box at the end of the two rows with holes in it marked 1st base to 3rd base, home run, foul and out. You stand at the opposite end and throw the bean bags into the holes......easier said than done. When you get for example 3rd base, you go and sit on the 3rd base chair and then you have to wait for the next person to try and get you home. Colin and I were on the team that won both games. Very fun!!
the evening ended early but everyone had a good time.
